Lightning clinch Home Ice for 1st round of the playoffs.

With the win tonight over the New Jersey Devils 4-2, the Lightning clinch 2nd place in the Atlantic division and will host Boston or Detroit in the first round of the playoffs beginning April 13th.

I was surprised by the play of Jonathon Drouin tonight. 4 SOG, 1 goal and 14 minutes of ice time.

I didn’t know how Drouin would be welcomed back into the locker room after he took his hockey stick and went home in January. It seems all has been forgiven.

Drouin was a difference maker tonight with his speed and puck handling.

Another solid game tonite for goalie Ben Bishop.  20 saves and his 35th win of the year. If he doesn’t win the Vezina trophy, everyone should have their voting rights suspended. I would even vote Bishop for MVP

Unsung heroes tonite Cedric Paquette, and Erik Condra. It will take this kind of effort by every player in order to have a long run in the playoffs. Very good defensive play and low turnovers.

The Lightning with 97 points fly to Montreal to wrap up the season on Saturday Night.

How strange will it be to have zero Canadian teams in the playoffs. You have to go back to 1970, the last year the NHL playoffs was an all American affair.
