Bucs are surprise team in the NFL

The bandwagon is getting full. All of the so-called experts who gave you fake news in their NFL predictions that the Bucs were a dumpster fire, this team would only win 1-2 games, they would finish last in the division are quickly changing their tune.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the surprise team of the NFL so far with their 2-0 record. I was one of the few who thought the Bucs would have a decent season. I predicted the Bucs to have a 9-7 record and just miss the playoffs.

I saw the talent that they had accumulated on offense and was just waiting for their coming out party. Well, its safe it’s party time as the Bucs have taken the NFL by surprise. It is still very early but as a Buccaneers fan you have to be pleased with what you have seen so far.

The biggest piece to the success of the Bucs so far is Todd Monken. Yes Ryan Fitzpatrick has played out of his mind. There is no QB that has been performed any better than Fitzpatrick. Not Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, or any other QB. But the key to the explosiveness of this offense has been the play calling of Todd Monken.

Monken has called the right plays at the right time and has showed a tremendous amount of confidence in the skilled playmakers on offense.

The second key to this early season success has been playing turnover free football. Yes the Bucs did have a couple on Sunday against the Eagles, but Fitzpatrick has made smart decisions with the football. He takes what the defense gives him and hasn’t tried to force things this season.

The third key is the play of the OL. The protection afforded to Fitzpatrick has been outstanding. It’s amazing what getting a true Pro Bowl caliber OL in Ryan Jensen and moving Ali Marpet back to his natural position to LG can do for the OL chemistry.

Jensen brings a presence to the OL and a nastiness not seen here in Tampa in a long time. While the pass protection has been solid, the running game has yet to really get going. I expected a better running game, but it’s still early and there is plenty of time to get it going.

Defensively the performance has not been great but they are doing enough to win. The DB’s have played very well considering how banged up that group has been.

Brent Grimes their best DB has yet to play in 2018. The Bucs are playing three rookies and they are having to play them more minutes every game as the injuries mount.

Chris Conte was banged up Sunday and may miss some time. Justin Evans was banged up defending a pass late in the game. Ryan Smith has played very well these first two games especially on special teams.

The Bucs are one of 7 unbeaten teams in the league and everyone is starting to pay attention to this team.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are up next for this team on Monday Night Football. A night they will induct Tony Dungy into the Bucs Ring of Honor.

Enjoy this ride Bucs fans. It’s about to get real fun.
