With the NFL season fast approaching, the Buccaneers have one of the most demanding schedules in the NFL this season.
You pay the price for winning a division with an upgrade in competition over the previous season, and the Buccaneers will see that this season.
Games against the Rams, 49ers, Cardinals, Steelers, Bengals, Ravens, Packers, and Chiefs highlight the schedule along with the six division games, which are never easy.
Also, the Bucs will play a game in Germany this year against the Seattle Seahawks.
Here are my top five games that Bucs fans are most excited about this season.
Kansas City Chiefs October 2nd.
This is a game circled on the calendar by Buccaneer and Chiefs fans as soon as the schedule was released. It will be a rematch of Super Bowl 55 when the Buccaneer’s defense shut down one of the best offenses in the league 31-9.
According to Ticketmaster, this is the one game on the NFL schedule that is drawing the most interest in ticket sales for the upcoming season. It could also be a preview for Super Bowl 57.
This game will be a good test for the Bucs defense, who will be trying to assert themselves as a dominant defense after a bit of a drop-off in 2021.
Dallas Cowboys September 11th
The first game of the season is always the highlight of every NFL team. As was the case a year ago, the Buccaneers will once again open the season against the Dallas Cowboys. This time on the road in Dallas.
The Buccaneers opened the 2021 season in Tampa against the Cowboys and came away with a 31-26 win.
All eyes will be on Tom Brady. It is Super Bowl or bust for the Bucs. The Cowboys have their own Super Bowl aspirations and will be counting on Dak Prescott and a healthy Zeke Elliot to get the Cowboys to the promised land.
Los Angeles Rams November 6th.
For the third consecutive season, the Rams and the Bucs will meet in Tampa during the regular season. The Rams have defeated the Bucs on their last two visits to Tampa during the regular season. The Rams also won a game in Tampa during last year’s Super Bowl run, 30-27.
The Rams built a 27-6 lead before Tom Brady began another one of his many comebacks. This comeback would fall short as the Buccaneer pass defense broke down late in the game, allowing a 44-yard pass to Cooper Kupp.
This game could be another potential playoff preview as many are expecting the Rams to get back and win the Super Bowl again this season.
Green Bay Packers September 25th.
It seems as if the Bucs have owned Aaron Rodgers and the Packers the last couple of seasons.
The last time these teams met was in the NFC Championship game on a cold, dreary afternoon at Lambeau Field in January of 2021.
The Bucs beat the Packers 31-26 in that game to advance to Super Bowl 55. The Packers traveled to Tampa earlier that season and were beaten badly by the Buccaneers 38-10.
Aaron Rodgers is in the twilight of his career, and he lost his number one receiver, Davonte Adams, to the Raiders. This could be a reloading year in Green Bay.
New Orleans Saints December 5th.
The Saints have become the Buc’s biggest rivalry in the NFC South. The Saints have owned the Bucs during the regular season as the Bucs have gone 0-4 in the Tom Brady era against New Orleans during the regular season.
During their Super Bowl season, the Bucs beat the Saints 30-20 in a playoff game on the road in New Orleans.
Jameis Winston should be the starter for the Saints this season. This will be a big game for Bucs fans as former quarterback James Winston returns to face the Bucs as the starting quarterback of their biggest rival.
Other games of note on the Bucs’ schedule that will create some excitement include:
At Pittsburgh Steelers on October 16th.
Home to the Cincinnati Bengals on December 18th
The game against the Seattle Seahawks November 13th (in Germany)
