Before the 2020 season, Tom Brady and Drew Brees had faced off five times in their NFL careers, with Brady winning twice and winning three times.
They will meet again on Sunday for the third time this season with a berth in the NFC Championship game on the line. Brees and the New Orleans Saints have won both games this season giving Brees a 5-2 advantage over Brady in their careers.
This game could be the last matchup for these two quarterbacks, so this matchup has the potential to be a rating bonanza for Fox televising the game.
Both of these quarterbacks will be first ballot Hall of Famers. But for now there is one more game and another opportunity to add to their growing legacy.
Brees and Brady are the all-time top leaders in passing yards and touchdown passes. Brady has 90,973 passing yards with 656 career touchdown passes. Brees has passed for 85,590 yards, and 607 touchdown passes.
The Bucs opened up the season in New Orleans losing to the Saints 35-23. They met again in week nine in Tampa in a prime time Sunday night matchup, in which the Saints won 38-3.
The Sunday night massacre was Drew Brees’s best game of the season. Brees completed 26 of 32 passes for 222 yards and four touchdown passes, the most he has thrown in a game this season.
Brady has had two of the worst games against the Saints defense this season. Brady threw five interceptions against the Saints this season while getting sacked six times.
The Saints outscored the Bucs 72-26 in the two games this season, with Brees passing for six touchdowns and no interceptions.
In their previous seven career matchups, Brady has 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Brees has passed for 21 touchdowns and two interceptions.
Although Brady is the GOAT, there is no question that Brees has gotten the better of the two in their seven meetings.
Another NFL record will be set on Sunday as this will be the first playoff game where both starting quarterbacks are over 40. Brady is 43, and Brees is 42.
We could all be watching the final game of Drew Brees’s illustrious NFL career should the Bucs pull off the upset. Brees has already signed a contract with NBC Sunday Night Football that will commence in 2022.
Brady is playing the best football of his career. The 43-year-old has passed for 1716 yards the last five games with 14 touchdowns and one interception.
Brady knows that he will need to play much better in this third encounter with the Saints if the Bucs will advance and keep their season alive.
I look for Brady to have one of his best games of the season against the Saints this weekend, which bodes well for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
