Buccaneers Draft preview Defensive Lineman
This is an area the Buccaneers need to get more production out of. LY the Bucs gave up 340/YPG which was 10 in the league. The Bucs had 48 sacks which was tied for 14th in the league. Gerald McCoy has been the lone bright spot on the defensive line. Akeem Spence very disappointing in his overall performance. George Ayers picked up from the Giants should start at defensive end.
Joey Bosa and Deforest Buckner will be gone by the time the Bucs pick. Noah Spence out of Eastern Kentucky, Shaquille Lawson of Clemson and Emanuel Ogbah of Oaklahoma State are all real posiibilites for the Bucs if they decide to go with a defensive End.
The Defensive tackles although not quite as impressive as the defensive ends available, the Bucs could still improve their line if they go with a tackle. Ashawn Robinson of Alabama is the No.1 prospect right now. He will probably be off the board when the Bucs pick. His teammate Jerron Reed, and Sheldon Rankins of Louisville are all possibilities.
I still think The Bucs will go with a DB with their first pick. The need is so great. I would definitely take a lineman in the 2nd round. Here a a few names to keep in mind. Kenny Clark out of UCLA, Adolphus Washington of Ohio State, Chris Jones of Mississippi State, Jonathan Bullard of Florida, and Shilique Calhoun of Michigan State. Although Calhoun is more of a mid 2nd early 3rd round pick.
I am not going to look at the linebackers. I think the Bucs are pretty well set with Kwon Alexander and Lavonte David as the corp of that group. They may add some depth here with the 6th or 7th round selection. Improving the defensive backs and the defensive line has to be the focus of this years draft.
I think Vernon Hargraves will be the Bucs selection in the first round. Either Jerron Reed or Sheldon Rankins will the Bus 2nd pick at no. 38.
