The Lightning, playing in the second game of a back to back had their 10 game winning streak snapped by a former teammate on Sunday night at the prudential center in Newark New Jersey.
Devils goaltender and former Lightning netminder Louis Domingue shut down the high powered Lightning attack and beat his former teammates 3-1 to snap the Lightning’s 10 game winning streak.
It was bound to happen sooner or later. All streaks come to an end and now the Lightning will try to string together a couple of wins before they break for the All-Star game later this week.
Louis Domingue, the backup goalie to Andrei Vasilevskiy last season played his best game of the season against his former team and got the devils the 3-1 win on a day the Devils fired their GM Ray Shero.
Tyler Johnson was the only Lightning player to get one past Domingue as he scored the first goal of the game thirty seven seconds into the second period to put the Lightning up 1-0.
The lead would not last long as New Jersey would tie it on a goal by Andy Greene at the 3:10 mark and then Travis Zajac put the Devils up for good with his sixth goal of the season at the 9:54 mark of the second period.
Domingue made 27 saves to get his third win of the season.
The Lightning power play was again missing in action as the Bolts went 0/2 on the power play. The Lightning are now 0/7 on the power play their last three games.
The Lightning will play at home against the Los Angeles Kings Tuesday night before a brief two game road trip to Minnesota and Winnipeg before the All-star break.
-Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy was named to the All-Star team today as a replacement for Bruins goaltender Tukka Rask.
Vasilevskiy has been outstanding the last month winning his last eight games and ten out of his last twelve. Vasilevskiy also has not allowed a goals in his last two outings shutting out Arizona and Philadelphia 4-0, and 1-0.
This will be Vasilevskiy’s third straight appearance in the All-Star game. He will join Victor Hedman as the two Lightning representatives.
Vasilevskiy is 22-9-2 on the season with a 2.58 goals against average. Vasilevskiy has two shoutouts and a .981 save percentage.
