The quarterback who led the league with 30 interceptions last year, and has thrown 88 interceptions in his five years as a starter.
The guy that has a 28-42 record as a starter in the NFL and has never led his team to the playoffs.
The guy that will be the backup quarterback to Drew Brees in New Orleans this season.
Oh yeah, he did the lead the NFL in passing yards in 2019 with 5,019.
He is none other than former Buccaneer starting quarterback Jameis Winston.
Winston was reportedly not under the influence of any mind-altering substances when he made this comment and a few others in an interview with Bleacher Report writer Tyler Dunne.
“I know what I’m worth and I know day in and day out, without publicly coming in and saying it, that historically I’m one of the best quarterbacks to play the game”
Winstons worth will be right around two million dollars this year to back up future HOFer Drew Brees in New Orleans.
He was given every advantage to get a huge payday, but could not take advantage of the opportunity given to him by Bucs head coach Bruce Arians last season.
Winston went on to say that he has been a winner his whole career and he wants to assure everyone that he will be a winner in the NFL.
“My entire life, I’ve been a winner. Little League football. Middle school. High school. College. The NFL is a little more difficult. But I’ve been a winner. I don’t want to be viewed as a loser. It’s going to come. It’s going to happen. This is something I’ve been fighting for my entire life.”
Unless Drew Brees suffers a season sending injury Winston will be 27 years old when he might get another opportunity to start in the NFL.
Winston said that he feels he is a better starting quarterback than a lot of other starting quarterbacks in the league, but he has to respect the game.
Winston came into the league as a Heisman Trophy winner and the number one pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015 and frustrated Bucs fans with his play the last five seasons.
Winston is determined to get back to playing championship-caliber football that he was part of in high school and in college at Florida State.
“If people think I’m just going to lay down and give up because of a few losing seasons, that’s never going to be the case.”
“Expect to see the national championship, Rookie of the Year, Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback being the best version of himself, taking care of the football, bombing the ball down the field, throwing touchdown after touchdown, leading the pack and being cool as the other side of the pillow.”
Winston is the all-time leading passer in Buccaneer history with 19, 737 passing yards, and also touchdown passes with 121.
The slice of humble pie that was delivered to Winston at the end of last season has had no effect on Winston.
It is going to be hard for Winston to prove to everyone that he is one of the top quarterbacks in the league while standing on the sideline and holding a clipboard on Sunday afternoons.
