Lightning explode for seven goals in win against Toronto

Braydon Point made his season debut last night and it looked as if he picked up right where he left from off last season scoring two goals and adding an assist playing on a line with Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov as the lightning beat The Toronto Maple Leafs In Toronto 7-3.

That top line of Point, Stamkos and Kucherov contributed 11 points in the Lightning win to snap a two game losing streak.

Kevin Shattenkirk added his third goal of the season, while Ondrej Palat added his second goal of the season for the Bolts.

It was a wild and crazy first period as both teams combined for seven goals as the Lightning had a 4-3 lead after one period.

After that, the Lightning settled down and controlled the game with their skill and speed and shut down the Leafs the rest of the way.

The Lightning outshot Toronto 33-28 after registering a season low 13 in the overtime loss to Carolina on Sunday.

Steven Stamkos playing on the wing scored two goals last night, and on the season has four goals and two assists. There was some worry as to how Stamkos would adapt to playing on the wing, but after four games so far so good for Steven Stamkos.

Stamkos was excited to play with Point and Kucherov and can see good things ahead for this line “If we can control the pace of play like I thought we did, you see what happened. We can shut elite offensive teams down by skating and competing.”

The power play was clicking for the Lightning as they converted two of three chances. On the penalty kill the Lightning allowed the Leafs to convert one of two chances.

The Lightning after opening the season at home are in the middle of a six game road trip which will take them to Ottawa Saturday afternoon, and then to Montreal on Tuesday.
