It is official, LeSean McCoy is a Buccaneer as he signed his one year deal and reported to the Advent Health Training Center.
McCoy will join Ronald Jones, Dare Ogunbowale, and rookies Ke’ Shawn Vaughan and Raymond Calais in the Bucs backfield
McCoy is a six-time Pro Bowler that has 11,407 rushing yards in his career. McCoy is also a solid receiver out of the backfield. He has 503 catches in his career.
Last season McCoy was hampered by injuries. He rushed 101 times for 465 yards and four touchdowns while catching 28 balls for 181 yards and a touchdown.
McCoy immediately becomes the best pass-catching running back on the Bucs roster.
In his introductory press conference, McCoy said that he still has a little gas left in the tank. “I’ve done a lot of great things in my career, But I’m not finished. When I decide to step out on the field and to continue my career, that means a lot. I give it my all. And that can be a lot of different things from on the field playing to helping out the younger guys in the room.”
McCoy said that he some interest from other teams, but at this point in his career he wants to win. “I think the biggest thing, where I’m at in my career I had a couple of teams reach out. No disrespect to the teams, but it didn’t fit. I wanted to win. I wanted to contribute. I needed something to push me. I want to be with a group of guys that want to win and I think this is a perfect place.”

McCoy when asked about the number of carries he was expecting to get jokingly said 25-30. Then was quick to clarify that they hadn’t talked about any specific roles.
Look for Ronald Jones to get the majority of the carries, but McCoy and Vaughan may get the majority of the passes.
Jones worked hard in the off-season on his game and his pass-catching. But the Bucs wouldn’t have gone after McCoy had they had extreme confidence in Ronald Jones and the rookie Ke’Shawn Vaughan and their pass-catching abilities.
One thing we can all agree on. The Bucs are a much stronger team at the running back position today than they were a week ago with the addition of LeSean McCoy.
